A sand separator uses the centrifugal action of spinning the water to force particulates outward and then down into a holding chamber. This an excellent product and when installed correctly, does an amazing job with sand and other particulate removal, while eliminating need to change or clean filter screens or cartridges. The half inch version is designed to separate sand and other particulates in a situation calling for a water flow of 4-9 gallons per minute and would be the model suitable for many indoor household applications.

Alternatively, the three-quarter inch version is designed for use in applications where the water flow is 10-19 gallons per minute, so is usually more appropriate for use with an irrigation system that has a 3/4 or 1 horsepower or pump.
